Shaping Global Change Agents: Practical Insights into Sustainable Innovation through Global Immersion for University of Kelaniya’s faculty and MBA Students

Shaping Global Change Agents Through Sustainable Innovation

At Aventis, we believe meaningful learning happens when academic knowledge meets real-world experience. That philosophy came to life in a recent global immersion programme designed for faculty and MBA students from the University of Kelaniya, one of Sri Lanka’s leading higher education institutions.

The one-day Singapore immersion was created to deepen students’ understanding of organisational behaviour, sustainability, and innovation in a high-performance Asian business environment. It also gave participants first-hand exposure to how Singapore turns sustainability strategy into practical, scalable action through initiatives such as the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and advanced water management systems like Marina Barrage.

Building the Bridge Between Theory and Practice

The University of Kelaniya sought to equip students with more than classroom knowledge. The goal was to expose them to multicultural business dynamics, sustainability in action, and infrastructure-led innovation that could inspire solutions back home.

This was especially relevant for MBA learners studying organisational behaviour and sustainable management. By experiencing Singapore’s business and environmental ecosystem, students were able to connect leadership, systems thinking, and responsible practice in a way that textbooks alone cannot deliver.

A Curated Immersion Experience

To meet these learning objectives, Aventis designed a structured one-day business sustainability immersion programme in Singapore. The programme blended academic insight with site-based experiential learning, creating a balanced and practical learning journey.

Students explored Singapore’s sustainability roadmap, including priorities under the Green Plan 2030, such as clean energy, green buildings, waste reduction, sustainable transport, and corporate responsibility. The programme then culminated in a guided industry discovery visit to Marina Barrage, where participants examined flood control systems, the Four National Taps, and climate resilience strategies in a real urban setting.

The experience also reinforced how sustainable infrastructure can support both resilience and long-term urban development. Marina Barrage, in particular, offered a strong example of how engineering, environmental planning, and public policy can work together for national benefit.

By the end of the programme, the students and faculty were able to synthesise organisational behaviour concepts and explain how leadership and behaviour shape performance, analyse key sustainability priorities under Singapore’s Green Plan 2030, evaluate the strategic importance of the Four National Taps in water security, and identify practical ways individuals and organisations can contribute to environmental conservation.

Student Perspective

“The visit to Marina Barrage was eye-opening. Seeing how Singapore manages its water scarcity through innovation gave us a completely new perspective on what is possible when Organisational Behaviour and Sustainable Management align perfectly.”

Appreciation and Partnership

The collaboration was recognised by Professor Bandara Wanninayake, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, who expressed appreciation for Aventis’ role in enriching the academic and cultural perspectives of the students.

The testimonial highlighted the value of international engagement in fostering global excellence and strengthening cross-border academic partnerships. It also reflected the shared commitment between both institutions to developing future-ready leaders with a global mindset.

Is a Data Science Masters Worth It for Your Career?

The career paths open to Data Science Masters graduates are broad. Common roles include Data Scientist, AI Engineer, Machine Learning engineer, AI Solutions architect and risk management specialist. Many of these positions sit at the intersection of technology and business strategy, which means strong long-term growth potential.

With employers struggling to fill roles and salaries continuing to climb, the return on investment for a Data Science Masters in Singapore has arguably never been stronger. The question is not whether the industry needs more data science professionals. It is whether you will be one of them.

Why It Matters

This study tour demonstrates the power of experiential learning in higher education. When students step into real-world environments, they gain a richer understanding of how theory translates into impact.

For institutions seeking to expand global exposure for their learners, programmes like this offer a compelling model: academically relevant, internationally oriented, and grounded in practical sustainability insights. That is how we help shape the next generation of global change agents. Contact our client solutions specialist at gladys@aventistraining.com
