Programme Structure

Module 01

Introduction to Counselling Practice

An introduction to counselling skills and initial preparation for counselling practice, establishing the foundational competencies required for the programme.

Module 02

Integrative Theory and Practice

Develops students' capacities to think and work integratively, with a particular focus on symbolic and unconscious communications in the therapeutic relationship.

Module 03

Foundations of Professional Practice

Provides further opportunities to practice counselling skills within a structured professional framework, developing ethical and professional practice standards.

Module 04

Personal Development 1 & 2

Personal development is a crucial element of the programme. Learning to know and understand oneself is an essential prerequisite to understanding and helping others.

Module 05

Integrative Theory and Skills

Presents and critically evaluates the person-centred model as a well-established example of theory and practice, emphasising the central importance of the therapeutic relationship.

Module 06

Supervised Counselling Practice 1 & 2

Students are required to work with clients to gain practical experience — a minimum of 80 hours in Practice 1, with advanced integrative practice developed in Practice 2.

Module 07

Assessment, Advanced Theory & Research

Covers assessment and diagnosis of clients for counselling, advanced integrative theory and practice, and a critical approach to research that informs counselling and psychotherapeutic approaches.

Academic requirements

Meet any ONE of the following:

Undergraduate degree at grade 2.2 or above in psychology, social sciences, or an arts-related subject

Evidence of experience of working in a helping role with vulnerable adults (employed or voluntary)

Completion of a basic counselling skills training

English language requirements

Meet any ONE of the following:

GCE O Level English (C6 and above)

IELTS 5.5 or above

For mature students, language proficiency assessed by the school on a case-by-case basis
