Module 01
Introduces counselling skills and prepares students for placement practice, personal therapy and supervision through theory, experiential learning and early skills practice.
Module 02
Develops counselling skills for reflective, ethically based placement practice, including supervision, professional ethics and note-taking.
Module 03
Introduces humanistic counselling and psychotherapy theory and practice through a person-centred approach centred on the therapeutic relationship.
Module 04
Explores assessment, diagnosis and clinical disorders, linking presenting problems to treatment planning, appropriate approaches and supervision.
Module 05
Builds practical placement experience through a minimum of 80 client hours under qualified supervision, with reflection on practice and therapeutic relationships.
Module 06
Supports individual personal development through one-to-one therapy and reflective learning journals, developing insight and self-knowledge.
Module 07
Develops integrative and relational practice, including psychodynamic understandings of unconscious communication and CBT strategies for presenting problems.
Module 08
Develops professional-level application of an integrative, relational model, with experiential skills work focused on moment-to-moment therapeutic practice.
Module 09
Continues individual personal development through one-to-one therapy and reflective learning journals, deepening insight from training and client work.
Module 10
Continues supervised placement practice towards the final 120 client hours in year two, connecting therapeutic work, reflection and theory.
Module 11
Introduces qualitative and quantitative methodologies, supporting critical evaluation and the design, planning and delivery of a small-scale counselling-relevant empirical research project.

The programme requires a minimum of 200 hours of supervised practicum with clients, plus 70 hours of personal therapy.
The depth of clinical training required — 603+ hours of face-to-face engagement including supervised practicum and personal therapy — means the programme is structured over 24 months.
